Welcome! I am Dr. Christina Grange, a psychologist and owner of the Fern Center for Life, LLC. I love this work and I am committed to empowering youth, families, and adults on their journeys towards the lives they really want. I value the benefits of being outside and offering that setting to clients I serve whenever possible. Learn more about my philosophy below.
My Philosophy
I am trained as a cognitive-behavioral psychologist. I am very aware of the significant impact that our thoughts and the internal stories we tell ourselves (narratives) impact our emotional, behavioral and physical wellness. However, I am also very much a community psychologist. I operate with a strong awareness that the world we live in and families we are born into impact our narratives and choices. In my service to clients, we evaluate contributing factors to current problems, with a focus on how to reconstruct and/or deconstruct various ideas in the effort to get to the lives clients’ truly desire. The strategies used in therapy support clients in developing tools for to recognizing, understanding, managing and communicating about complicated emotions and experiences. This is done with significant sensitivity to the social, cultural, and economic factors that impact clients’ lives, as well as the diversity factors that are part of each client’s identity.
As person who identifies as a cis-gendered woman, African American, and child of immigrants I have lived the truth that every space is not a safe space. Thus, exploring the realities and complexities of my clients’ diversity characteristics is an important part of the therapeutic work. I am overtly aware of the difference between being “normal” and being “healthy”. My goal is to support clients in being as healthy as possible. As such, my practice gives space for encouraging each person to embrace and honor their unique identity while shaping their path in life. I am available to offer services in-office, virtually, and in nature-based settings (walk and park-based therapy) depending on the client’s capacities, needs and preferences.
Growth is a complicated process, but it is also a beautiful and powerful one.
